Southern Interior Karting Association - Supplemental Rules - 2001
Version 1.0
The following supplemental rules for use within our club are based on the
ASN CANADA FIA GENERAL COMPETITION REGULATIONS AND. The information
contained within this rule package is intended as a supplement to BCKCA
Rules and may be incomplete and is subject to change by the rules committee
without notice.
For interpretation or clarification of these rules, contact the Race
Director.
Where there is a conflict between the rules stated herein and ASN rules, or
BCKCA rules these rules shall take precedence.
To completely understand the scope of the entire club rules contract, it is
recommended that all members acquire and familiarize themselves with the
rules as set out in the ASN competition regulations and tech manual.
RELEASE OF LIABILITY
All persons must sign a "RELEASE OF LIABILITY" form before being allowed
access to the racing complex.
All minors must submit a "RELEASE OF LIABILITY" and "HOLD HARMLESS
AGREEMENT" before being allowed access to the racing complex.
PROOF OF AGE
All members must provide a copy of their birth certificate as proof of age
when applying for a competition race license. A competition race license is
required by all drivers.
KART ENTRY FEES
SINGLE KART
* PRACTICE - $30.00 includes 1 pit pass
* CLUB EVENT - $50.00 includes 1 pit pass and practice day
* SECOND CLASS - $25.00
* MAXIMUM FAMILY CHARGE - $125.00 Includes pit passes for drivers only.
Does not include 2nd class fees.
PIT PASSES / SPECTATOR FEES
PIT PASSES $2.00
ENTRY INTO CLUB EVENTS
1. All persons must sign the "RELEASE OF LIABILITY" and "HOLD HARMLESS
AGREEMENT".
2. Upon payment of entry fees, the Registrar will issue the appropriate arm
bands.
CLUB PRACTICES and RACE DAYS
MEMBERSHIP FOR COMPETITION
This rule is subject to conditions as set out in the CLUB constitutional
By-laws. For 2000 to compete in a Club event, entrants must:
1. Be a member of the CLUB, or
2. Be a member of an ASN club that SIKA has a membership agreement with.
CONTROLLED PRACTICES
Any person who wishes to take test laps in a kart during a controlled
practice session must:
1. Have a current medical on file with ASN.
2. Sign the RELEASE OF LIABILITY waiver;
3. Be a member of the CLUB, or
4. Be a member of an ASN club that SIKA has a membership agreement with.
REGISTRATION FOR CLUB EVENTS
In order to register for Club events, entrants must:
1. Sign or have on Club record, a signed "RELEASE OF LIABILITY" and "HOLD
HARMLESS AGREEMENT";
2. Present a valid membership card;
3. Pay the prescribed entry fees OR have on Club record a prepaid account
for the Event;
4. Upon payment of race fees, the Registrar will issue the Tech card/s and
appropriate arm bands.
5. Drivers shall complete their Tech cards, in full, at their discretion,
but shall not do so within the registration area.
6. No kart shall be allowed on the racing circuit until such time as it has
been Safety Tech Approved.
REFUNDS
After a driver receives SAFETY TECH APPROVAL, no refunds will be granted.
PRE-GRID / PADDOCK and PIT RULES
WORKERS / STAFFING
During practice days, all workers and staff will have to be volunteers
drawn from the entrants, pit pass holders, and spectators. Entrants on
practice days shall be required to donate some of their day’s time to
working the event for each other.
PIT SAFETY
The Safety Tech inspectors shall require the following safety and tech
items at each pit area:
1. Copy of Supplemental Club Rules, Supplemental BCKCA rules, & 2000 ASN
rules
2. Fire extinguisher
3. First aid kit
REFUELING and FUEL / OIL SPILLS and DUMPING
To prevent surfaces from becoming contaminated with fuel/oil or other
harmful products, DRIP PANS must be used at all times.
Event Organizers shall provide absorptive products for spills and shall
make a serious effort to provide a designated container for the purpose of
dumping fuel/oil or other harmful products.
PRE-RACE SAFETY and TECHNICAL INSPECTION
SAFETY TECH APPROVAL
SAFETY TECH APPROVAL consists of:
1. Tech card filled in and signed by the Registrar, and
2. Tech card signed by the Safety Tech Inspector, and
3. Kart displaying a current tech sticker initialed by the Safety Tech
Inspector, and
4. Submitting of tech card to the Safety Tech inspector(s).
IF a driver is caught on the racing circuit during a controlled practice,
qualifying session, or heat race without Tech Approval, they will be
disqualified for the day.
DRIVERS
In order to compete, drivers must meet the criteria regarding age and
weight, as set forth in the CLUB COMPETITION CLASSES for the current year.
NEW / ROOKIE KART DRIVERS
All NEW/ROOKIE drivers must wear a contrasting colour X on the back of
their helmet and have a red number panel on the rear of their kart. The
rear number panel must also have an X on it as well.
RACING PROCEDURES
EMT
No competition shall take place unless an Emergency Medical Technician or
person with a current Industrial First Aid Certificate, and suitable
transportation for injured persons is available.
(Corner Marshals will be instructed to display a Black flag when a Red flag
has been displayed by the Flag-person.
POST QUALIFYING TECH
All karts and drivers must proceed to post heat weigh-in and legality tech,
and must be approved to receive heat points
Tires shall also be checked and marked using a paint marker by the Tech
Inspector to insure tire rule compliance.
STARTS
Drivers shall enter racing circuit by the designated grid area only. During
pace laps, in preparation for the green flag, all Drivers shall maintain
their respective positions in their grid line-up until the green flag is
presented. If a Driver flagrantly or repeatedly refuses to line up
properly, the Race Director or Starter can put the driver to the rear of
the line-up. If any class cannot receive the green flag in two consecutive
laps due to the failure of the front karts to maintain a proper pace lap
speed, the offending kart or karts can be put to the rear of the lineup.
The front row will not be penalized for the actions of the karts behind
them.
HOT PIT
The designated hot pit area shall not be used during qualifying or racing.
All Karts/drivers/crew members stopping in the hot pit during practice must
be well clear of the racing surface. NO REFUELLING.
KARTS OFF THE RACING SURFACE
Corner Workers / Race Officials may assist all Junior drivers. In junior
classes karts with stalled engines may be restarted only by an assistant if
equipped with a starting mechanism
POST-RACE PROCEDURES
SHUT DOWN / WEIGH-IN
There shall be absolutely no excessive speed in the shut down area. All
karts must stop at or before the stop line.
Driver and kart must weigh in after each Heat/main to receive points. If a
driver is found to be under weight after his/her heat/main, they will be
disqualified from the heat/main race. The Scale Technician shall have the
authority to determine weight legality.
No person shall be permitted to assist or meet with any driver prior to
weigh-in without permission of the Scale Technician. Failure to comply may
result in a driver being disqualified from the session, (qualifying,
heat/main).
POST RACE LEGALITY TECH
Fuel, tires, chassis, engine and engine components shall be subject to post
race legality technical inspections at the discretion of the Race Director.
TIRES
All tires must be marked as per post qualifying tech procedures. Any tires,
which have not been approved for replacement by, the Race Director, or do
not display the tech marking, shall be considered illegal.
ENGINE
The Race Director reserves the right to impound the engine and seal it for
technical inspection at a later time. Refusal to comply with the technical
inspection request shall result in disqualification for the day.

PROTESTS
All engine and, engine component protests must be accompanied by a fee of
fifty dollars ($50). If the protest is successful, the fifty dollars ($50)
will be refunded to the person filing the protest. If the protest is
unsuccessful, the entire protest fee will be forfeited to the person being
protested.

SCORING / RACE FORMAT
A) For Races where a track transponder timing system is available, the
following procedure will be followed.
A race consists of qualifying (4 laps), one (1) heat and (1) main in
classes with 17 or less entries. For classes with more than 17 entries the
following applies.
HEATS: The maximum number of karts in any heat is 29. Once there are 30 or
more entries the class will qualify and be split into A,B and C groups.
The Fastest qualifier will be A and the second fastest will be B and the
third fastest will be C, the 4th fastest will be A and so on. They will
race in the following manner.
A races B , B races C , C races A
Each entrant will be awarded points for finishing in each heat and the top
20 finishers will move to the A main. The remaining entrants will compete
in the B main and the top 4 finishers will move to the A main. The top 2
finishers in the B main will not be awarded points for their finishing
position in the B main and
shall be awarded points based on their finishing position in the A main.
The motocross point system will start in the A main then carry on to the B
main.
Heat races shall be 5 laps plus 1 lap per entry to a maximum of 12 laps, or
as determined by the Clerk of the Course.
Main shall be 8 laps plus 1 lap per entry to a maximum of 16 laps, or as
determined by the Clerk of the Course (time permitting).
QUALIFYING will be done in 4 laps.
HEAT 1 will grid from qualifying for 2 cycle classes, and there will be a
dice rolled to determine Senior 4 stroke class grid.
MAIN will grid by the finish order of the first heat in classes with less
than 18 entries.
The dice roll invert as follows
1-12 entries roll a 1,5,6 = no invert all other numbers is the number of
rows that will do a mirror invert.
13-17 entries roll a 1or 6 = no invert all other numbers is the number of
rows that will do a mirror invert.
B) For Races where no timing system is available, the following procedure
will be followed.
A race consists of two qualifying heats and one main. Starting grid
positions for the first heat will be determined by order of "pea pick".
Starting grid positions for the second heat will be by the inverted order
of the same "pea pick". Starting grid positions for the main will be
determined by the total points earned in the two qualifying heats. Points
are awarded for each qualifying heat as follows; 1 for first, 2 for second,
3 for third, etc.. The lowest total will start the main on pole, etc..
Where a tie exists the driver with the lowest points in any one heat will
take the position and if a tie still exists then the driver with the lower
points in the second heat will take the position.
In all heats / mains rookie drivers shall grid behind non-rookie drivers
In the event of a disqualification, the scorekeepers will recalculate
points for all drivers
Club series points to be awarded based on finishing position in main only.
POINTS FOR MAIN’S
1st 200, 2nd 175, 3rd 155, 4th 140, 5th 130, 6th 120, 7th 110, 8th 100, 9th
90, 10th 80, 11th 75, 12th 70, 13th 65, 14th 60, 15th 55, 16th 50, 17th 45,
18th 40.
Plus 1 point for each entrant in the main. All finishers after 18th place
receive 1 point for each entrant in the main, subject to the rules listed
below.
For the purpose of scoring a heat race a DNF that passes post race weigh-in
shall finish ahead of Another DNF with less completed laps and DNF"s shall
finish ahead of DQ’S.
In a heat race all entrants shall receive points
For a main race a driver must take the green flag in order to receive
points
Failure to complete 1 lap will result in a DNF.
Failure to take the green flag will result in a DNS.
Failure to make a restart initiated by a red & yellow crossed flag
situation will result in a DNF as long as the entrant took the green flag
in one of the previous starts for that main.
For a MAIN race disqualified entrants receive NO POINTS.
CLUB CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS
In order to qualify for a club championship you must compete in at least
50% plus one race.
No Club Championship points will be awarded without a SIKA membership.
Best X-1 of X races count for year end points, where X is the total number
of club races for the year.
NOTE: A DQ. Does not count as a throw-away
Three karts are required in a class group to qualify for year-end awards.
TROPHIES
For club races trophies will be presented to 1ST. 2ND. & 3RD. place
finishers in all classes.
Trophies are awarded based on points from the main only
