SIKA News

First report of the 2017 race season.  June 5, 2017

May 27th marked the return of the Southern Interior Karting Association (SIKA) for the 16th consecutive year at Kal Tire Place in Vernon. If you are a fan of fast racing action for the whole family; it was the place to be; and the weather did not disappoint with hot dry conditions all weekend. It was a fabulous start to another season that seemed somewhat tenuous leading up to this past weekend’s race.

With the announcement of the construction of the new arena at Kal Tire Place in the Fall; it seemed unlikely that there would be enough space to accommodate the club’s temporary track layout going forward. It took a lot of hard work but with the generous assistance of the City of Vernon, Kal Tire Place and a lot of work behind the scenes the club was able to secure a new track layout and have it sanctioned by CACC/ASN (karting’s governing body) just in time for the 2017 season.

The Southern Interior Karting Association has been a fixture in the community for more than a decade, attracting racers from all walks of life. And yet kart racing is not a well known sport and it often battles against many stigmas. This is definitely not like amusement park go karting, it’s a recognized automobile racing discipline which for some racers leads to racing cars.

Saturday’s race at Kal Tire Place was the first of a whole season of racing for SIKA. Club races are scheduled for the following dates June 17/18, July 8/9, July 22/23, Sept 9/10 & Sept 23/24.

SIKA is always looking for new racers and there are race classes for children 8-10, 11-15, and adults 16-70. There’s also race classes for different styles of kart engines either 4 stroke motors and 2 stroke motors. As a member of SIKA, you can also race at the permanent tracks in Quesnel and at Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack. Kart racing offers both children and adults the opportunity to meet great people, feel the adrenaline rush of racing, and develop skills that last a lifetime.

Some answers to commonly asked questions are:

Can kids participate? Yes, children as young as 8 years old are welcome and all new racers no matter what their age progress incrementally in skill and speed.

Do I need race experience? No, kart racing is a skill that takes time to develop. We all start out slow or slower and special measures are put in place to allow beginner racers to advance safely.

Can anyone race? Yes, no matter your age or gender, everyone is welcome. In fact, over the past few years, most of the clubs junior members have been girls and we’ve had racers up to 70 years old.

Do I need my own kart? Yes, you need to own your own kart and you need to possess a basic general knowledge of mechanics. We have karts available for sale within the club as well as contacts for new and used equipment.

If you are interested in more information, please come to the track at our next race weekend June 17th and ask any club member for more information or you can call Scott at 250-306-5358

Preparations for the 2017 race season.
 April 25, 2017
We've moved our first weekend to the May 27/28 with a Test & Tune on the 27th and Race #1 on the 28th.

We're going to be short on tire bundles for the new layout so we'll be organizing a "Tire Party" for one Saturday in May to building at least 12 bundles.  We'll send out an email confirming the dates and times later this week.

Attached is a picture of the 2017 SIKA Display at Village Green Centre.  We set up on Saturday and it will be on display until next Sunday.  We're inviting those who want more information to come out Saturday Morning April 29th between 9:30 & 12:00 at the display to meet club members and get some information about karting, we need some volunteers to come out for this.  Please let me know who can come out (even it's just for a couple hours).

Those of you who are selling karts this year, I have three interested people looking for C200 karts, so if you want to sell yours please send me a picture and price and we'll print and distribute them on the 29th.

Also, just a reminder licensing this year is done through CACC and BC Motor Reg.  So if you want to get this process started you will need to complete your 2017 SIKA Membership form and have it signed by Shawn or another Executive, pay your membership fee's.  You will need a fully executed copy of this form to submit as part of your license application.  The whole process took about a week to get the licenses in the mail.

We will be issuing temp licenses at the May 27/28 to those who haven't completed the process with CACC, however you still must have all the forms completed, so maybe print them off the website and fill them out ahead of time.  These include (medical and parental consent forms). There will be no charge of the temp licensing.  CACC fee is $30.

Bob was named our Sportsman of the Year for 2015. Our condolences go out to Bob's family and long time friend, Al.  Friends and family are invited to a celebration of Bob’s life.     We have scheduled a workparty for Saturday April 11 at 9 am to fix up our tire bundles. 2014 race season to kick off at Kal Tire Place April 26.
March 12, 2014
Details for the 2014 Nor Val Rentals race season were mapped out at the club meeting March 11. Five two day race weekend events are planned for Kal Tire Place with additional dates to come for races at Top Gear Karting in Penticton. A new schedule for race entry fees was established that offers a discount for advance payment of the five races at Kal Tire Place. Pay $500 before April 11 for all five races for a saving of $125 over the regular race entry of $125 for each race.
For spectators the best location to view the racing action is right on the corners. You can do this by volunteering to be a corner marshal. We will train you. If you like motorsports but are not into racing yourself, race marshalling is a great way to get involved. Race marshalls are always welcome at many motorspots events and kart racing is an excellent way to get started on your second career. Just come out to our first race April 26.

Dave Langlois passes.
 September 12, 2013
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Langlois, one of our founding members. The Service for Dave is to be on September 21. Our thoughts are with Janis, Cole and Brittany in this time of sorrow.

Race Schedule for 2013 has events in Penticton as well as Vernon.
March 4, 2013
For 2013 SIKA will be holding some of  our races at Top Gear Karting located at the Penticton Speedway on Carmi Ave. The races in Penticton will be run under Top Gear's Insurance and safety proceedures and are not sanctioned by ASN Canada FIA or BCKCA. These races will be open to any kart racers, SIKA members or not. It is hoped that SIKA's involvement at Top Gear will expand interest in kart racing in the South Okanagan. These races will include classes for Top Gear's "Arrive and Drive" racers as well as for those with their own equipment. See the Schedule page for dates.

2013 Annual General Meeting set for January 22nd.
December 7, 2012
The 2013 AGM and election of the 2013 executive and directors will take place January 22nd at Donald's Machine Works at 7:30 pm. All members are urged to attend, to support the club and set the direction for the 2013 season.
One proposal expected will be to move our races to the Penticton Speedway under the operation of Top Gear Karting. This proposal is being made as a possible means to allow the club to continue operating in a financially viable form and to support TGK who are currently operating karting facilities.

Proposed changes to the SIKA FC200 Senior Class.
February 21, 2012
To deal with the concern that the lighter drivers have to add a great deal of ballast to meet the current 370 lb. weight in the FC200 class the club is  proposing to split the class into a Light at 350 lb. and a heavy at 400 lb. . Each class will race for their own trophies and points. If there are less than 16 total entries both classes will run on the track together. If there are 16 or more entries they will race seperately. In order to have both classes running about the same lap times the light class will use a carb restrictor. This is to make the racing between two caets of different classes more of a challenge and thus more interesting. We will try different size restrictors to get the best balance between the classes. This proposal will be discussed and voted on at our March 27th meeting.

Next Meeting changed to Tuesday February 21st. February 5, 2012
The next club meeting is changed to Tuesday February 21st which is the third Tuesday of February. In future it will be on the fourth Tuesday of the month. It is moved forward a week this month so it will be before the BCKCA Annual General Meeting on February 25th.
This will be an important meeting to attend as we will be discussing our reccomendations to BCKCA for any rule changes and to decide the future of BCKCA and whether we want to affiliate with the CACC.  Please read the following e-mails from Dorothy Alexander and Don Choquer regarding affiliation with CACC and look over the CACC website.

Hi Guys

I received this email from Don Choquer yesterday and talked to him last
night. He is not sure about the direction Paul is suggesting but thinks
that this could give us more visibility in the motorsport community. He did
indicate that he and hopefully Westcoast also would be willing to take a
more active role in BCKCA. I still think that BCKCA is a viable entity
and I do not want to give it up but we do need to have the discusssion as to
what the immediate role of the organization is. Obviously we aren't going
to run races this year but we still have a place. I think the first thing
we have to do is schedule an AGM. We could invite Mike Kearne to see what
CACC would have to offer that we don't already have. I find it interesting
that this suggestion is Paul's and that he is attempting to pick our
successors! He has done this before with the Steward position and it did
not go well for anyone. So, how is the 18th or 25th of February for a
meeting in Chilliwack? Bill, could you send out an email to the Clubs and
get a consensus as to date then I will book the room.

Dorothy

Subject: Karing in BC

 Chris:

Mr Cooke called me yesterday regarding the BCKCA status or lack thereof.

He is proposing that we (karting) come under the CACC banner here in BC.
See their website below..... looks impressive, maybe we would get a lot of
exposure through being affiliated with them

 http://www.caccautosport.org

Mike Kearne is currently their president. You will remember him as the
 WCC Steward last year.

I don't necessarily think it is a bad thing but it becomes more of an
issue of control and by whom. When we were active as BCKCA we were strong
in BC and ASN allowed us to basically control the affairs of karting in
BC. Now in his proposal we would have a representative on the CACC board
for karting. He suggested that I be that person

The alternative would be for us to reactivate BCKCA and and assert our
position. I could take on the Presidents role there and get a local board
including Dorothy and possibly Danny and we would be able to resurrect it
if we think there is a need.

I spoke with Mike Greg and George Rickman about this and we will discuss
it again in a day or two once they have looked over the CACC site, etc.
Also as a side note I suggested that Paul talk to George about being the
Race Director for the WCC and he is going to talk to him about it.

If you have a chance call me.

 Don Choquer

More from Don Choquer.

Mike Kaerne called this morning about the CACC BCKCA umbrella proposal that was proposed to me last week by Paul Cooke.

For those of you who are just hearing about this proposal it is based on the fact that BCKCA has been rather docile the last few years and and Paul was suggesting that we look at the CACC organization to assist the karting community with their administration, officiating and licensing matters that CACC has in place. It could be a mutually beneficial relationship whereby we could share the resources that are already in place. Their website http://www.caccautosport.org includes on line licensing, rules, minutes, bylaws, etc for all of their memberships benefit.

If I have missed any of your BCKCA Club reps please forward this email onto them for their benefit.

Currently the way CACC works is they are the BC umbrella for all of the ASN affiliated clubs except karting. They have a representative from each of the racing disciplines on their board who then reports to them regarding their particular category. They have a common administration staff that produces the licenses, etc.

The President usually goes back East on an annual basis for National meetings to discuss rules, etc.

All of the racing disciplines receive their funding from their respective licensing and sponsorship initiatives. Each discipline determines (generally) where and how they use their funding. He also said that their marshalling discipline receives their budget from fines, etc. so you can see pretty much how all of the disciplines are stand alone entities.

They receive minimal fees from ASN but this pays for some of their administration costs. He said they received about $3,500 which comes from a portion of National licenses that are issued. I didn't ask him what the percentage was. So if that was the case I guess BCKCA should be getting some funding from ASN for all of the National licenses that have been issued ????

They have 2 AGM meetings and typically the fall morning meeting is where the general membership elects their head for each discipline which then makes up the board of CACC. They also ratify the rules for the upcoming season. In the afternoon each of the disciplines members break out for their own meeting to make their own rules, changes, etc. Much like we do in BCKCA today. The Spring meeting would be where they amend the rules with bulletins. They also hold skype meetings with the directors on a monthly basis and he did indicate that these meetings usually only ran 1 1/2 hours rather than the 3 hour marathons in person that we are all too familiar with. He did say though that they held 1/4'ly face to face meetings to deal with issues which is also a good thing.

I think we all should look into the Skype thing because it would cut down on travel and expenses and time overall. Someone just needs to do the minutes and ensure they are distributed as normal.

Mike has been involved for over 30 years in one form or other. Last year he was the clerk of the course for the WCC series and basically was brought in to replace Fred Causer by Paul Cooke at the first event held in Chilliwack. He is currently the President of the CACC.

By the way the BC Sports Car Club falls under th CACC umbrella as well.

Personally I think we can go either way. On one side we could get some exposure to race fans and the sports car parents looking for racing options for their kids. If we became a discipline within the CACC umbrella it would also expose our karters to other forms of automobile racing. CACC would administer our licensing issues and keep the website up with a karting section for updates and rules, etc. Basically centralizing the BCKCA licensing issue which has always been a bit of a problem and taking over the BCKCA website function.

I think our BCKCA organization has been a strong presence in Canadian karting and can continue to do so if we decide to go that route. We will need to spend some money to get the website up to date and a little more user friendly. My recommendation here would be to make this a central hub for karting with a chat board, club reports, race results and rule changes. In addition to that we will have to get licensing under control and issue regional license to all karters in BC.

Mike indicated he would be willing to come and talk to us at our BCKCA AGM. I am suggesting we put this on the agenda for discussion and allow Mike to present his case early in the morning so that we can discuss the proposal and determine the direction of karting in BC. Please keep in mind that Paul Cooke could just dictate that we automatically fall under the CACC umbrella anyways and we wouldn't have anything else to say about it. We could still have BCKCA as is and allow CACC to do the admin, licensing and website updates. ....

Regards
Don Choquer

SIKA Championship to adopt a two race points drop.
 July 24, 2009
At the June club meeting it was decided that the SIKA Club Championship would use a two race drop system for determining championship points. This  means that each driver will not count the points from their two lowest scoring races. This will be a benefit to drivers that are not able to attend every race of the season. The points shown on our "points" page now reflect this calculation.

SIKA to move to trnsponder scoring.  April 4, 2009
At previous general meetings it was decided that the club needs to buy a transponder scoring system to handle the increased race group sizes we saw last year and expect to see more of this year. The funding required for this system was disscussed at the March meeting and is still at issue. An advisory letter from Lance Gillies has gone out to all club members by e-mail. If you are a member and have not recieved this letter please send an e-mail message to Lance or John and we will forward the letter to you. On Saturday April 25th we will have a meeting at our first race day to disscuss this issure with more members present.

Vega "green" adopted as spec tire for "Chonda" class.  April 4, 2009
At our March general meeting the Vega SL6 "green" tire was chosen as the spec tire for the SIKA  Chonda class.  Kacic Motorsports (or soon to be CRG West) has placed a large stock order for these tires for us and we have committed to this tire for a minimum of 3 years. Our rules will allow the Mojo D1 tires used last year to be phased out as they wear out. This way racers who still have their Mojos can continue to use them this year if they wish before switching to the Vega greens.

"Elvis" Bill Cleve did a great blow by blow job on the PA and Ian Trip Flagged for us.  A good time was had by all.

Endurance race not to be. August 19, 2008
The September 7th race will now be a regular format club sprint race and not an endurance team race. The club has had a change of mind and will not be holding an endurance race this year.

To everyone in the charting community:
  July 28, 2008
Kacie Motor sports, in Kelowna BC, was broken into in the early hours  of  Sunday, July 27, 2008.  Our trailer and storage unit contents were  virtually wiped out.  CRG chassis, Rok motors, Vega tires, magnesium  wheels, tools, and VP 5 gallon fuel pails were all stolen, along with  our generator and compressor.  Due to the fact that the contents were  in a trailer and in a storage unit, these items are not covered by  insurance.  If anybody sees or knows anything about any of these  items, please contact Danny directly at 250-769-0770 or  danny@precisionautoltd.com.

Celebrity race and new engines planned for this season. Revised date as of June 29, 2008
SIKA is planning a celebrity feature race for the August 16-16 weekend. This will feature a kart race on Saturday with local community leaders and radio and television personalities. Stay tuned to this site for more details as they develop in the coming weeks.
In order to lower the cost of equipment for the Junior and entry level racers SIKA is now allowing the use of low cost 4 cycle engines, being the J200 and S200 series. These engines are commonly available from local stores at costs that are about 1/4 that of the previously required engines. Furthermore we have cut the cost of race entry for the Junior 1 and Canada Junior classes by 50%. It is hoped that with these changes, families will find karting a more affordable option. Full details are outlined in the 2008 SIKA Regulations.

SIKA to hold an endurance race September 7. Revised date as of June 29, 2008
We are in the planning stages for an endurance race to be held on Sunday September 7. Details are to follow. For now, there will be three classes run, Junior 4 cycle, Senior 4 cycle and TAG. The race will involve team competition with driver changes.

Work party this weekend at Multiplex. May 21, 2008
There is a work party this Saturday, May 24th at 9am behind the Multiplex parking lot to do repairs on our tire bundles, corner mats and trailers. All members are requested to pitch in and help with the work. Bring your own tools, including drills, saws, and extension chords. We may need generators as well.

Schedule changes result from Multiplex major event bookings. March 21, 2008
Recent new event bookings at Wesbild Centre, the new name of the Vernon Multiplex, have resulted in some race date cancellations for SIKA. Details have been posted on our schedule page. The April 5-6 cancellation is due to a Hockey tournament that will require more parking than we can allow. May 24-25 is due to a monster truck event, and September 27-28 is due to a home show.
Also note that there will be a Minor Hockey Tournament in conjunction with our fist race on April 19-20th. We will be required to leave the two rows of parking available at the east end of our pit area for hockey parking and to leave adequate access to the player's entrance from the west side of the building and across the north end.
SIKA members are encouraged to come to the meeting this Tuesday, and discuss the schedule and to decide if there is enough support for another mid-Summer date to fill the void.

2008 Annual General Meeting. January 22nd. January 13, 2008
The 2008 Annual General Meeting will be held January 22nd at 7:30 pm at Kelowna Flightcraft. This is your opportunity to elect the club executive for 2008. All members are asked to attend. Note also that your 2008 membership dues are due and must be paid to be a member in good standing and be able to vote at the meeting. The Annual Dues form is available on the Membership page of this site. It would save time at the meeting if members would download a copy of the Annual Dues form and bring it with them to the meeting.
Our 2008 race schedule has now been posted. This may be subject to change at this point, particularly as for the ROK cup participants there are 3 consecutive races at the start of the schedule. We are considering canceling one of our club races as the likelihood of a poor turn out is high.
Submissions for changes to our rule book and race format will be accepted and discussed at this meeting and voted on at the February meeting.
Note also the non-members and prospective members are welcome to attend this meeting. New members can join at this time if they wish. The Membership Application form is available to be down loaded from our Membership page.

Next meeting to plan for next year.  September 22, 2007
We will be considering proposals from all members for Next year's BCKC and WCKC series, as well as BCKCA rules and class proposals, at our meeting on September 25th. Please bring all your ideas for next year to the meeting. SIKA club rules and race format will be dealt with at a later meeting. We have made our application for race dates at the Vernon Multiplex for 2008. We understand that we are first to put in our request for parking lot dates so are only affected by Vipers hockey games as far as we know. Weekends asked for are April 5, 19, May 10, 24, June 7, July 5, Sept 13, 27 and Oct 18, so we should have a much bigger schedule for next year.

Next race at CARTBC.  September 21, 2007

Our next race, Race 9, will be at CARTBC on the October 13-14 weekend in conjunction with the Coastal Kart Racers race on that weekend. For this race our members will have to conform to the Coastal class rules for the classes they enter. In other words, Rotax will enter the Rotax class and run Mojo tires, ROK will enter the ROK class, World Formula Heavy drivers will enter the WFH class and Senior 4 cycle Hondas and Chondas will enter Senior Honda and run only Hondas (no Chondas). Points calculated to the SIKA scoring system will be earned toward the SIKA championships.
Format for the weekend is for practice all day Saturday with a warm-up and races on Sunday. Race registration is $85 and includes both days.

Barbecue at Bill's.  August 23, 2007
Bill is inviting everyone at the race August 25 to a barbecue at his new place in Armstrong on Saturday evening. It's BYOB&M (bring your own beverage and meat). Bill says you can camp there too as long as you're rowdy.

Next meeting at Kelowna Flightcraft and August 4-5 race canceled.  July 20, 2007
In our quest to hold our meetings as close as possible to our membership population, which we believe would be in Winfield, we will now meet at the Kelowna Flightcraft hanger at the Kelowna airport. To get to the hangar turn at the airport entrance off the highway, turn left before the tracks on to Airport Way, go past the stop sign you are now on Aerospace Rd go to the end, turn left into the parking area and park near the middle of the building, the door will be marked SIKA, the meeting room is upstairs.
The race scheduled for August 4th & 5th weekend has been canceled due to a forecasted lack of support at our last meeting.
Our race dates for September and October are now firmed up as the Vernon Vipers hockey schedule is now set and there is no conflict with our dates.

No power supply at work party.  April 22, 2007
The power pole that is in the area of our tire storage has now been disconnected, so there is no longer a power supply there. So members who have generators are asked to bring them so we can use power tools.

Next meeting in Vernon.  April 17, 2007
The April 24th meeting will be at Vernon RV, at 4700 - 31st Street. From the highway turn east on 43rd Ave and go across the tracks, then turn left (north) on 31st Street.

Rules posted, Work Party scheduled, Karting Seminar offered and Program needs input.  April 1, 2007
There is a work party scheduled at the Vernon Multiplex on the April 28-29 weekend Starting at 10 am. We need to do repairs on our tire bundles and trailer decking. All members are asked to contribute their time. Bring your tools. There is power available at the site, but you will need extension chords for power tools. Materials for bolting tires and  decking will be provided. We will also be putting together one more trailer (our fourth) at this time, so those with steel fabrication skills and tools are asked to bring them along.
A spring Karting Seminar is also scheduled for Saturday morning April 28th at 9 am also at the Multiplex. Those that wish to take part in this are asked to respond to John Gregg by e-mail or phone (494-1497) and we will configure the seminar accordingly.
Our 2007 rules are now posted here on the Rules page. Please note the new rule section 2 regarding club business policy. All drivers are asked to look after their club membership and licensing application issues at club meetings or by mail rather than at club races. This is to reduce the work load on our race registration desk as these people have enough to do without these additional tasks. Our motto " We don't race at business meetings and we don't do business at races".
Steve Manlove has been doing a fantastic job of putting together a very professional club program that will be distributed at races to spectators. We are selling advertising space to raise funds for the club. All drivers are listed in the program with their pictures and personal data. Steve is short many of your pictures and data though, so would all drivers please send Steve a photo of themselves and their personal data. For data he needs your age, kart number, and your engine model.

Rules and classes for 2007 are postponed to the March 27 meeting.  March 4, 2007
The proposals for rules and class changes will now be dealt with at the March meeting. If club members wish to make proposal submissions to the webmaster they will be posted here so that all members can review them prior to the meeting.

Canuck Karting forum temporarily "down". January 21, 2007
The Canuck Karting forum is expected to be back on line again as soon as it can be fixed. I accidentally harpooned it a couple of weeks ago and now it needs a techie to go in and fix it. I guess my computer skills are a lot like my driving skills. JG

Local racers may enter the ICE Race in VernonNovember 1, 2006
Having talked to the race promoter we understand that they are looking for some local kart racers to enter the ice race to be held January 6th at the Multiplex. In order for local racers to enter we understand that they will allow gasoline fuel and sprint bodywork in lieu of the methanol fuel and Speedway bodywork that their rules normally require. The entry limit is only 8 to 12 karts in order to fit into the one evening show. We would suggest sending photos of the karts as prepared for the  ice race along with the entry application to preclude any questions on race day. For more information and to order ice studs, see the website www.icespeedway.com

Final race, October 28-29, is on at Vernon Multiplex September 28, 2006
At the Sept. 26th meeting we decided to go ahead with the October 28-29 race at the Vernon Multiplex. As this will be our last race of the season we will have a "pot luck" dinner on the Saturday with a bonfire, as we have done in previous years. So bring your dinner contribution and enjoy the Saturday night bench racing. Guests and families are of course welcome.
Plans are in the works for the year end  Awards Banquet at the Manhattan Point restaurant at Prospera Place.  More details to come. In order to do this we will have to pre-sell the tickets and tickets at the door will likely not be available. We expect to have tickets available at the October 14-15 race at CARTBC.

Next race, October 14-15 at CART BC September 14, 2006
It has been determined from the results of our member poll, that our next race for the SIKA club championship will be Sunday, October 15th at CART BC. This is a Coastal club race where our members will receive points toward the SIKA championship. Saturday, October 14th is also available for practice as this is a two day event for Coastal.
Our last race of the season will be October 28-29 at the Vernon Multiplex as long as we get enough commitment of support from our members to make the weekend economically viable. Members should attend the next meeting, or otherwise contact the executive with their commitments for the October 28-29 date. A post will also be on the Forum for this purpose.

Next meeting for 2007 rules proposals September 14, 2006
The SIKA general meeting on September 26 will be the meeting for receiving proposals for any rule changes that would be referred to BCKCA or ASN Canada for next years rule books. If you have proposals you would like to make, it would be helpful if you submit them to the club in advance so that they can be posted here or post them yourself on the SIKA Forum.

Fall race schedule revisions due to conflicts with hockey at the Multiplex August 29, 2006
The last two race dates for September and October have been canceled  by the Multiplex as they conflict with the Canucks training camp and a Vipers home game. The only date offered as a replacement is October 28-29. We have reserved Oct 28-29 pending consensus by the club that we want to race then. To replace the other lost date, the club has agreed to declare a Coastal club race as a SIKA points race.  The Coastal race we choose could be either their Sept 23-24 race or their Oct 14-15 race pending the outcome of a poll of our club members to be taken on the SIKA forum.

SIKA to host the B.C. Karting Championship race 2 at CARTBC July 29-30 June 29, 2006
Just a reminder to check the posting below as this is our next major event. A good turn-out of all our members, whether racing or volunteering is important to making this event a success for the club.

Karting forums down for repairs June 29, 2006
The Canuck Karting Network and the BC Karting Forum are both down for repairs right now. We understand that they should be back up in the near future. Where we formerly hosted the Canuck forum ourselves, we had turned the hosting over to an outside group a few months ago in the hopes that they would integrate it with the BC Karting forum, so that we would have only one forum serving karters in Western Canada.

First half of the '06 season is in the book May 30, 2006
This past weekend we completed the spring season with races 5 and 6. It's hard to believe, given the weather forecasts, that we made it by dodging all the spring showers. Good battles are developing in most of our classes that will play themselves out this fall. Angelea has laid down a bunch of wins for a comfortable head start in Junior 1. Ahh but there's a challenge brewing between Bennett and CJ for second. Stay tuned for the outcome on this one. In Junior 2 Paul is carrying a major lead into the second half. What he needs now is some more challengers to test him to the finish. Following encouraging performances at the BC Championship in Quesnel, Kyle and Hunter are now running neck and neck in Junior TAG. Look for more excitement here to come.

The "Okanagan Trailer Park Boys" (Senior 4 cycle) are led by Rob who came out dealing a series of aces to build a good cushion. John came back with a pair of aces of his own this weekend and hopes to close the gap by year end. Rob says "look out, I'm coming back with a vengeance". Or is that "with Vegas"? Meanwhile the other Trailer Park Boys are planning an uprising of their own. World Formula is a real race for the top spot of the podium. Frankie, Graeme and Jon all have their eye on it and it's within all of their grasps. Coming off a standout performance at the BC Championships Frankie says his secret is the cast off tires he gets from the Senior TAG boys. He says "those guys just don't know how to use up a set of tires like us Pietramalas can". World Formula Heavy has the Maytag Repairman, Steve, looking for more competition. In the meantime he's dicing with the Trailer Park Boys and making headway.

Senior TAG has lots of good battles going all through the pack. Then there's the side bets for the MAX and ROK drivers to consider too. It's a statistician's heyday. Steve is working hard to maintain the lead he's built on consistency, while Dean, following a solid performance in Quesnel, is racing with renewed vigor toward the front with a pair of wins in his pocket from this weekend. The points are close all down the field and there's a bunch of drivers that can come to the surface at any time. So keep an eye on Cole, Colin, Dan, Chris, Kris and Court as they move forward. Jamie moved up to this group this weekend and looked promising before he had his unfortunate setback. We expect him back up to speed for the second half in August. The Gear Grabbers (ICC) looks like a slam dunk for Augie, but Graeme is working hard to keep him in sight. Reliability and gas in the tank are issues here.

On another note, we set a new record for the track tear down time in just under 2 hours, as the tires were all moved to storage by 5:00pm. Credit goes to all who helped and our two Nor-Val Bobcats with the long forks. Now if we can just get the tires pulled together in groups of 4 bundles we can save even more time and cut the damage percentage to the bundles.

Our next major event is the BC Karting Championship in Chilliwack July 29th. As we are the host club for this we will need all hands on deck to make this race a success. Peter is heading up our organization on this and would appreciate all the help we can get. If you or people you know are not going to be racing at this event, please consider calling Peter and volunteering to come and help us with running the event. The more people we get the easier it will be and the better the club will do financially.

June 17-18 weekend races canceled April 10, 2006
Due to a large convention being held at the Multiplex on the June 17-18 weekend, our races will be canceled. Our agreement with the Multiplex is that we can be pre-empted if they have an opportunity to make a much higher revenue than they can when we use the parking lot. We have agreed to this so that we can get a reasonable rental rate for our races. As they are expecting 2500 delegates to this convention they will need the parking lot. The June 10 - 11 weekend is available at this time if we want it. This will be decided at the April 25th meeting as it conflicts with a Coastal race.
As our last tire trailer still needs a couple of days work to complete, expect notice here shortly that we will be having work parties on April 22 and 23 to do this.

Work, Work, Work March 30, 2006
It seems it's endless but.... On Saturday April 8th we will have a work bee to fix the loose tire bundles at the end of the day's racing activities. It's easier to do then when the tires are spread out on the track. You will need to bring your 3/8 electric or battery powered drills, extension chords and 9/16 wrenches to the race on Saturday. With everybody pitching in we'll get it done pretty quick.

SIKA to host the B.C. Karting Championship race 2 at CARTBC July 29-30 March 29, 2006
We will be the host club for BCKC race 2 on the July 29-30 weekend in Chilliwack. It is hoped that this will be a fund raiser for the club. In order to make this a success we need race workers to run the event. Positions that need to be filled include, Grid Marshall, Assistant Grid Marshall, Assistant Scorer, Scale attendants (2), Post Race Technicians (2), Corner Marshals (8), Kart Retriever, and Gate Sales Attendants (2). Club members who will not be racing are asked to volunteer for these positions, as well all club members are asked to recruit family members and friends to help us with this. Peter Higham has volunteered to be the Event Manager for our club, so please contact Peter to commit your support.

Work still needed to complete tire trailers March 29, 2006
We were able to get one trailer frame put together and welded up in spite of a very low turnout to the work party March 25-26. We still need the second trailer put together and both trailers decked. We have all the materials so we just need the workers. This weekend is available and evenings next week as daylight time kicks in this weekend. Check the forum as Steve Manlove will be posting details.

Work party planned for this Saturday March 25 March 20, 2006
We are planning to have a work party this Saturday at the Multiplex in preparation for this season's racing. All club members are asked to participate. We will be putting together two more trailers for moving tires and doing repairs on tire bundles and corner mats. Work will commence at 9:00 am Saturday. Bring your own tools (drills, wrenches, saws, grinders, extension chords, jacks, chains, come-alongs, welders, hammers, compressors, spray guns, leftover paint and anything you feel will help). There is power on site, 110v & 220v. If we all pitch in we hope to get a lot done in one day.
With two more trailers it is expected that all our tires can be stored on the trailers without having to load and unload trailers in the storage area. This should virtually cut out track setup and tear down times in half, thus giving us more time to practice on race weekends.

Pre-season Training Day, this Sunday March 19 March 15, 2006

A young loss to the karting community.  February 7, 2006
It is with great sadness that we say good bye to Dean Sellinger. Dean was a member of the Coastal and Southern Interior clubs. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Dean's family and close friends. He will be greatly missed.

From the Chilliwack Progress, January 29, 2006
Sellinger, Dean Hassett - July 24, 1991-January 29, 2006
Dean Hassett Sellinger passed away in Vernon Jubilee Hospital on January 29, 2006 at age 14 after a long battle with cancer. Dean was born in Chilliwack on July 24 1991 and attended St Mary’s Catholic Elementary School until grade 7. Dean and his family were active members of St.Mary’s catholic parish. Dean’s love and faith in god was evident in the courage he displayed throughout his life. Dean was a member of the British Columbia Kart Racing Association out of Chilliwack and became an avid and accomplished driver, enjoying many victories throughout western Canada.
Dean lived everyday of his life for the moment. He had a maturity and perspective far beyond his years. Before he became a teenager, Dean assumed a partnership role in his parent’s construction company and realized the importance of focus and dedication to work.
Dean will be sadly missed by his parents Daniel and Dana, his sisters Sayla and Silken, his grandparents Leo and Lona Sellinger, Dean and Yvonne Hassett and numerous uncles aunts and cousins.
Dean will also be missed by the close friends and teachers at St Mary’s Catholic School in Chilliwack and friends of the B.C. Kart Racing Association.
Prayer services for dean will be held at St Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday, February 3 2006 at 7:00 pm.
A funeral service will be presided over by close friend bishop-elect Gary Gordon at St. Mary’s catholic church on Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 10:00 am. with a reception immediately after.
Burial arrangements forthcoming
In lieu of flowers for those wishing to make a memorial donation, they may be made to the Vancouver Children’s Hospital.

Trailer build postponedSeptember 22, 2005
The planned trailer build work party set for this weekend is being postponed until we have all the necessary material in place. The log trailer reaches needed for the backbone of the trailers are yet to arrive from Prince George. Once we know we have all the materials we will re-schedule the build.

Format changes for the Sept. 10 Race and other news August 31, 2005
The race day schedule for Saturday is revised to have the drivers briefing at 9:00am just before track setup. This is to assemble all drivers and immediately following the drivers briefing all drivers will work on track setup until it is ready. The pits are closed to personal work during track setup. Also a reminder that the late registration penalty implemented last year for drivers who come late and miss track setup will be applied ($30). In order to help with setup and tear down and reduce the time required we will again be hiring 3 workers from Labour Unlimited for the September 10-11 race.
We plan to build two more trailers for tire storage on the September 24-25 weekend. This will give us four trailers and should eliminate unloading and loading of tires in the back storage area. This will greatly reduce track setup and tear down times and we then expect to not hire additional labour for this. It is important that we get everyone out to this work party to get both trailers done on one weekend.
Next meeting (Sept. 27) will be the meeting to present any rule change proposals for next year. If you have proposals you would like to make, it would be helpful if you submit them to the club in advance so that they can be posted here or post them yourself on the SIKA Forum.

Next meeting, August 23rd July 7, 2005
As we do not have our next race until September and as the turnout seems to be particularly low to general meetings in mid-summer, we have decided to cancel the July meeting. Therefore the next meeting will be August 23rd. Have a great Okanagan Summer and be ready and rarin' to go come September when the club championship will resume.

Multiplex changes affect our schedule May 31, 2005
The Multiplex has scheduled a big lacrosse tournament for the June 18 weekend and so has rescheduled our next race to the June 11th weekend. Also note that our Race 8 & 9 is rescheduled to the October 1st weekend. Please change your plans accordingly. We apologize for the short notice.

Work Party at the track set for Sunday April 3rd March 26, 2005
The club is holding a work day April 3rd behind the Multiplex parking lot to repair our tire bundles. Nuts, bolts, & fender washers will be provided. Bring your own tools, drills, compressors and extension chords etc. There is power available at the site. The fun starts at 9:00 am and the club will pay $50 to each worker who puts in a shift as an incentive to come out.

Pre-season briefing day, this Sunday March 13 March 10, 2005
We are holding our pre-season briefing seminar at Kal Tire Westside on Sunday at 10:00am. We will have a pizza lunch ($5) there and should be wound up about 2:30pm. It is hoped that by requiring less of a time commitment from racers that we will see bigger turnouts to the events.
