BCKCA Rules meeting and AGM
to be combined at Nov. 13 meeting.
October 29, 2004
We have received notice that
the BCKCA Annual General Meeting which has been held previously in January
will now be held in combination with the fall rules meeting on November
13th & 14th. This means that the election of the 2005 executive will
take place at this meeting. It is important that you know that the following
positions will be vacated by the incumbent executive, and they have indicated
that they will NOT allow their names to be presented for nomination:
Chairman/President, Terry Pritchard
Vice President, Mike Gregg
Licensing officer/Senior scorekeeper, Donna Pritchard
Secretary, Don Choquer
The following positions are
open for nomination. They may or may not have incumbents willing to stand:
Treasurer
technical director
Race director
Steward
As you can see, we are in serious
need of some new faces to fill the vacancies left by the outgoing executive.
We ask all members of the B.C. Karting family to seriously consider if
they would be willing and able to contribute to our organization. If you
have any questions about what is involved with these positions, please
talk to the current officers. Their contact information is available on
the BCKCA website. They would be happy to field your questions.
We can't express enough, our
appreciation for the tireless contributions the BCKCA Executive make to
our sport. Their work both at events and behind the scenes is huge. We
have them to thank for all that is good about Karting in B.C. Let's show
our gratitude by providing equally dedicated people to fill their shoes.

2004 Race season wraps up.
October 12, 2004
Well, we finished off another
year of racing with a great weekend. The nice weather saw several close
battles as racers fought it out for their final position in the club championships.
Added to the mix were several guest racers from the Coast. Always nice
to see. Lots of good food and fellowship at the Pot Luck Dinner on Saturday
and good fun on Sunday with the Gobble 500.
We ask that all of last years
recipients of the "Annual Perpetual Awards" please return their trophies
to Dana Cave or Bill Cleve so they can be re-badged and awarded to this
years winners. Look for information on the Awards Banquet here shortly,
the details are just being worked out now.
BCKCA 2005 rules proposals
released for review.
October 8, 2004
Please review the attached
proposals and ensure you give your club reps the direction in which they
would like to see things go for 2005. The new BCKCA Club reps need to be
elected by the clubs and present at the meeting on November 13,14/04, 9:00am
at the Ramada Inn, Whatcom Road, Abbotsford. They also need to be
aware that at times they will have to make judgment calls on issues that
may not exactly be what their club had intended. For this reason
it is important that you choose your club reps carefully. Click
here to download the .zip folder containing all of the proposals. It's
a big file so give it a few minutes.
All General Meetings now in
Kelowna October 1, 2004
At the last meeting it was
decided that in future all meetings will be held in Kelowna at Kal Tire.
For the last while the attendance has been better at the Kelowna meetings
and it was felt that it would reduce the average drive for members when
taking races and meetings into account.
On Saturday, Oct 9, we will
be having a "Pot Luck" barbecue dinner after the race. This means that
everyone will bring one part of the meal. It could be meat, salad, desert
or ?? . Bring enough of it to feed about 4 times as many people as you
or your group. We will have some BBQs there and we are getting a portable
fire pit so we can have a bonfire as well. Bring some fire-wood.
Sunday we will finnish up
with the Gobble 500 fun race. Details will be revealed on the weekend.
We would like to have some prizes to give out for this, so we ask all members
to do what you can to solicit some prizes for the event.
Final race of the season to
feature barbecue and "Gobble 500"
September 27, 2004
Our wrap up race will be Thanksgiving
weekend October 9 & 10. After Race #12 on Saturday we will have a "pot
luck" barbecue at the track. Everyone is welcome. Sunday will feature the
"Gobble 500" team race following Race #13. The Gobble 500 features pit
stops, driver changes, skills competitions, and lucky draws to determine
the winning team. In order to fit this all in, we will likely forego practice
on Sunday. Full details for the weekend are being hashed out at tomorrow's
meeting in Kelowna.
Trailer completion party set
for September 18 postponed 1 day
September 18, 2004
Due to rain we will cancel
today's effort and try tomorrow, Sunday at 10:00 am.
Trailer completion party set
for September 18 September
16, 2004
One last push and we'll have
this one behind us. Meet behind the Multiplex at 10:00 am on Saturday.
We just have to install some axle braces, screw the plywood on and roll
out some paint and she's done. Several hands will help if you can spare
a few hours. Bring your own tools.
SIKA forum site has moved
September 16, 2004
The SIKA forum is now located
on our web site since the B.C. Karting site has gone bye bye. The links
here have been updated, but if you were using your own bookmarks you can
now update them to find the new Canuck
Karting Network, which contains the SIKA forum section.
Rules proposals for 2005 to
be heard at next meeting.
September 13, 2004
On the agenda at the September
28th meeting will be rules proposals for 2005. Members are asked to make
their submissions that relate to regional and national rules, in writing
at or before this meeting. The deadline for proposals to BCKCA is the end
of this month so proposals must be approved by the club at the next meeting.
The BCKCA rule meeting is November 13 -14. The October SIKA meeting will
be when all of the clubs proposals are reviewed and the cub votes on each
to give direction to our club representative delegates. SIKA club rules
for next year, will be dealt with after the results of the BCKCA rules
meeting in November are known.
Trailer construction well
underway September 13,
2004
A big "thanks" to all the
members that came out to the work party this weekend. We now have a 1"
plywood deck on trailer #1, and it looks great. This will really enhance
the usefulness of the trailer. The second trailer is also well underway.
A few hours next weekend should have it finished up and decked as well.
Trailer build work party set
for September 11 - 12
August 31, 2004
The club will be holding a
work party to build the next tire moving trailer and to deck it and the
first trailer with plywood. Please bring your tools and any leftover paint
you might have to paint the plywood with. We have power on site so drills,
saws, grinders etc. can be cordless or plug in type. We look forward to
seeing you all there at 10:00 am Saturday and 9:00 am Sunday if necessary.
Volunteers needed for the
National Race August
12, 2004
This message was just received
from BCKCA and is self explanatory. We ask all our club members to seriously
consider donating some of their time to this effort. The more people they
have the smaller the jobs will be.
"To All Clubs:
After talking to our coordinator in charge of
Volunteers it appears that we
do not have a lot of support coming from club
members with possibly the
exception of Coastal Kart Racers.
Please send a notice to your club members to
get in touch with Art Lee who
is coordinating the volunteers and he will pass
the information onto the
BCKCA executive.
Art can be contacted at: alee@lnlracing.com
Remember this is a good opportunity for people
to come out and support
karting and see how a National event is run.
Hope to see everyone there.
Thank You
Don Choquer

August 14,15 race is on.
July 28, 2004
It was decided at last night's
meeting that Race 6 & 7 will go as scheduled
on August 14,15 at the Vernon Multiplex. We have now found some material
for the next tire trailers to be built, and will schedule a build party
in September. The exact date will be set at the August 24th meeting in
Vernon. Currently we know of eight members that are going to the ASN Canada
Nationals, and we will be getting our pit spaces grouped in a block for
SIKA members. If you are planning on going and have not let us know yet,
and want to be included in the SIKA pit block, then email
us right away. You must register for the race before July 31 to avoid the
late registration fee of $25.
Trailer build work party postponed
July 16, 2004
The work party set for this
weekend is off and will be rescheduled to a later date. We are still
working on sourcing the materials needed. Look for a date announcement
to come shortly.
Highlights from the June 22nd
meeting June 25, 2004
The status of Race 6 &
7 is unchanged at this point, but some concern was expressed that the August
14/15 date is very close to the Nationals on August 18th, and some members
that are planning to attend the Nationals may not want to run at two races
this close together. Therefore if there is any change to Race 6 & 7
it will be decided at the July 27th meeting. All members are requested
to e-mail the executive their intentions regarding this race to let the
club know if you will be racing or not. If the expected turnout is too
low, we cannot afford the expense and may cancel the event.
July 17th & 18th were
set as dates to build two more big tire storage trailers. The work party
will take place behind the Multiplex parking lot, and we would like to
see all racers contribute, particularly those that weren't there for the
first trailer. We will also be decking the trailers with plywood. We feel
that with three trailers, track setup and tear down time will be cut in
half. Tire bundles also need repairs at the same time. Bring all tools
you can imagine you'll need for this.
The proposal made by Butch
on the forum was discussed, but no final decision was made, as Butch was
not at the meeting for the discussion. It was also thought that the additional
trailers may affect what we do here, so the matter was tabled to the next
meeting.
A motion was passed to change
the weights for out Shifter class. This was to put us more in line with
the Coastal Masters class weight, which seems to be quite popular. The
new weights are: ICC, FC, F125 - 400lb.; F80 with front brakes - 375lb.;
and F80 without front brakes - 365lb.
Also decided at this meeting
was a motion to reduce the noise emission level from 85dba to 82dba in
accordance with the BCKCA rule. Most karts are currently under the 82dba
limit already, however a few will have to make changes to conform. Specifically
Piston Port Junior will have to use the RLV silenced SBX pipe, while Piston
Port Senior can either use the silenced SBX or another auxiliary silencer,
and Formula 80 karts will have to use the RLV 6100 kit. As long as the
silencers are in good condition it is expected that all other classes of
kart will meet the 82dba limit. We will be doing sound level testing at
our next races. This rule will take force for the 2005 season. In view
of the circumstances on the Island with karting being banned for noise
annoyance twice now (1999 & 2004), It is hoped that our racers will
take pro-active action and make the necessary changes as soon as possible.
Race 6 & 7 weekend postponed
to August June 9, 2004
Our Race 6 & 7 weekend,
originally scheduled for June 26, 27 has been postponed to August 14, 15.
The schedule page has been revised accordingly.
The reason for the postponement is that there is a large concert scheduled
for June 26 at the Multiplex, and that although we can use the parking
lot during the day, we would be required by the Multiplex to clear our
track setup for Saturday evening. This would require too much work and
reduce our running time to the point where it is no longer feasible to
hold our event on this weekend.
Kart numbering and Weekend
race schedule changes.
June 3, 2004
One of the issues that caused
problems at our last race, was a duplication of kart numbers in the race
groups on the track. This creates big headaches for scoring and reports
to the starter from corner marshals and the Clerk of the Course. In order
to alleviate this problem and save tine on race day by not having to correct
duplicate numbers at registration, The following motion was passed at the
May 25th club meeting.
“The Clerk of the Course will
assign all kart numbers to the drivers. A current list of driver/kart numbers
will be posted on the web site and be available at club events. Consideration
will be given to driver preference and seniority for number assignments.
The first 10 numbers assigned in each race group will be single digit (0-9).
Consideration will be given to karts that may race in more than one class
(Rotax/TAG) and to class groups that may run in one group (J14/J24). New
members/racers will apply for their kart number and can give their preference
of number.”
A list of current assigned
kart
numbers can be viewed here and
from the Membership page. If anyone has any
problems with the numbers listed, please contact the Clerk
of the Course and we will try to fix you up.
A motion was also passed the
changes the race day schedule for Saturdays along with the race entry fees
for late arrivals.
"The Saturday schedule will
be changed to hold registration from 8:00 am to 9:00 am. Track setup will
start at 10:00 am. Drivers who do not register before 9:00 am and who do
not participate fully in the track setup will be able to register after
the track is set up and will be assessed an additional $30 over the regular
registration fee. Drivers who do not register or race on Saturday, can
register Sunday morning for the single day. The fee charged will be the
regular one-day race fee plus $30 surcharge. The $30 surcharge paid Sunday
is refundable at trophy presentation if the driver contributes to track
tear down. This motion will take effect for Race 6 & 7 and future races."
Note that drivers that participate
in the track setup and tear down jobs will not have to pay any additional
entry fee. This new policy will take effect beginning with the June 26th
Race. The new schedule is posted on the schedule
page.

Pit
space layout for May 1-2 race.
April 26, 2004
Due to the expected higher
entry for the May 1st race, we have defined a layout
for the pit area in order to get a better efficiency of available space.
Space should be available for kart trailers, however all tow vehicles,
pick-ups, motorhomes, and travel trailers are expected to park away from
the pit area at the north end of the parking lot in the unused section
or in the tire storage area. Motor homes and travel trailers may be brought
up to the pit area for overnight once the track is closed. Racers are encouraged
to be responsible with their pit utilization as space will be at a premium.
SIKA rule book misprint.
April 20, 2004
Our printer inadvertently
left out the file for the BCKCA tech regs,
in the rule books distributed last weekend, so they made up 20 copies of
a 12 page addendum for us. It's partly our fault also for not checking
the book more carefully when we picked them up, but we can give out the
addendum to everyone at the next meeting or race day, and slip it into
the remaining books before they are sold. As Phlyin' Phil
Gaglardi
says "Sorry for the inconvenience".
Kart numbers for scoring.
April 7, 2004
Our scoring system requires
that we have single digit kart numbers from 0 to 9. This allows for up
to 10 karts in a class. So far this has not been a problem as we have not
exceeded 10 in a class yet. All racers are asked to choose a unique single
digit number that is displayed in conformity with ASN rule 8.30. Please
consult last years points page, and the other racers that you know that
will be in your class, and be prepared to conform to this requirement.
Note also that there is a possibility that we may have a TAG class in addition
to the Rotax class, and that some of the same karts may run in both. Therefore
if you will be racing a TAG class kart, try to avoid a number conflict
with Rotax, as they will use the same number for both classes.
SIKA 2004 Consolidated Rule
Books Available. April
6, 2004
Our 2004 rule books are due
to be received from the printer this week. They will be available at the
first race, April 17th. They will also be available by this weekend directly
from Rob Morris in Kelowna. Anyone wishing a copy before the race can contact
Rob (769-4992) and arrange to pick one up from him. The cost is $15.00.
It's purely a coincidence again this year that the fine for not having
a copy of the rules in your pit is also $15.00. For those that prefer to
print their own book, all the rules are also available as downloads from
this site as well as BCKCA and ASN Canada FIA.
Work party report.
March 30, 2004
The work party last Sunday
saw the trailer get its axle installed and 90% of the welding completed.
This time the welder used a welding mask, so there was no facial injury.
The trailer now just needs wheel bearings, wheels, tires, and a 2" ball
hitch. If anyone has a hitch they can donate, please let Butch or John
know. As there were only 2-1/2 people there, we did not make any progress
with fixing up the tire bundles (see item below). As there are only two
weekends before our first race, and the second is Easter, we will have
to get the work done this Sunday, April 4th. Let's have a good turn out
and it shouldn't take long. Bring drills, extension chords, and 3/8 bolts
with fender washers.
Tire trailer construction
date this Sunday, March 28th.
March 25, 2004
At the last club meeting we
have set this Sunday at 9:00 am to be a work party behind the multiplex
parking lot to work on the first tire moving trailer and to repair broken
tire bundles. Last weekend, at the last minute, a few members came out
and got the raw materials in place and got a good start on the project
by fitting and tack welding the trailer deck together. Fitting the axle,
hitch, and final welding are about what's needed to complete the first
unit. Several bodies are needed, as hand moving of the trailer and components
will be required to finnish the unit. At the same time we want to do repairs
on the tire bundles that are coming apart after 3 seasons of use. Bolts
and fender washers will be required. Apparently Dana has some left over
from his previous tire wall building sessions. Power is available at the
site.
Question raised regarding
additional classes. March
25, 2004
At the last club meeting it
was asked if we would add a TAG class. At our September 2003 meeting, when
the 2004 SIKA class list was passed, it was also passed that additional
homologated classes could be added if there were 5 or more club members
committed to competing in that class. And that the addition of that class
would not result in an abandonment of the existing 7 club "core classes".
This means that if there is sufficient support, classes such as BCKCA Formula
125 W/C Spec or BCKCA Junior 2 - 2 cycle could be added. In the meantime,
senior drivers that have engines that will not fit in the 7 "core classes",
can run in the Open class. As of last meeting we have also created a provision
for junior drivers with Junior 2 - 2 cycle engines to run with the Canada
Junior group if there is no class for them. Currently we have no provision
for Junior 1 - 2 cycle or C+ licensed classes.
Tire trailer construction
date, put off until after next meeting.
March 16, 2004
At the last club meeting we
had set this weekend (March 20/21) as the date to build our first tire
moving trailer. This is being postponed until after our March 23rd meeting.
We still need a better organization of the project before we can start
the build.
Rotax National Qualifier race
at SIKA May 1 & 2.
March 2, 2004
Our club race on May 1 &
2 will also feature the Western Canadian Rotax Max Challenge Series race
which is a qualifier for drivers wanting to race at the Canadian Nationals.
As our race is a double header, with a race on Saturday and another on
Sunday, both races will count toward WCRMC points and National qualification.
Our regular club classes will also run as usual. As we expect a large number
of entries in the Rotax classes likely will run a split field format. The
field will be split into two equal size groups which each will pea pick
and race two qualifying heats. Based on total qualifying points the field
will be arranged into A and B groups with the higher scored drivers in
A group. The B group will then run a consolation main heat, with the top
3 finishers transferring to the A main. Points are awarded to all drivers
with the B main drivers scored behind the A main. Bottom line here is that
everyone will get plenty of on track racing.
Applying for your 2004 BCKCA
license. January 31,
2004
Now is the time to submit
your 2004 drivers license applications. A few things to note. Along with
your license application form there are a few other documents that need
to be supplied.
1. The 2004 BCKCA license application
form is now available on the BCKCA web site, or from your club. Submit
this form in duplicate, so that the club license committee can sign both
copies and return one to you as your temporary license.
2. A photocopy of your valid medical form
is to be included with the license application. Any medical forms dated
before January 1, 2003 have expired. New ASN Canada FIA/BCKCA medical forms
for 2004 are available from the BCKCA web site or your club. This new form
must be used for all 2004 medical reports.
3. A photocopy of a "proof of age" document
such as your Birth Certificate or Drivers License.
4. For drivers under the age of 19, an
original signed copy of the ASN Canada FIA "Minor Participants Waiver".
This is available from the ASN web site under /Insurance, /Forms, as a
download. Note, enter "All 2004 ASN Canada FIA sanctioned events." on the
"description of events" line. This form will be kept on file and will not
have to be signed at each event as it was last year.
5. For drivers under the age of
19, an original copy of the ASN Canada FIA "Annual Parental Consent" form
signed by both parents. Again, this will no longer have to be done at each
race. Note that both parents must sign, if the family is separated, then
a second form may be mailed to the remote parents for the signature, and
both forms submitted.
6. Payment to the club.
We strongly recommend that
you keep and carry with you to all events, photocopies of all of the above
documents as proof. Mistakes have been known to happen with clubs and BCKCA
and mail. Your copies are your guarantee that you have met the requirements
and will be accepted at any event.
Addendum to the BCKCA meeting
Report. January 31, 2004
Our representatives to the
BCKCA are Bill Cleve and John Gregg. If anyone needs more specific information
about the proceedings at the BCKCA meetings, the club reps can help, just
contact them. These meetings are open to observers, and full details of
all motions are available form the reps. Details include the moving and
seconding clubs as well as how the clubs voted (for, against, and abstentions).
Unofficial 2004 BCKCA Annual General Meeting Report. January 28, 2004
The BCKCA 2004 AGM was held in Duncan on January 24th and 25th, hosted by the Capital City Kart Club. This meeting was a continuation of the November rules meeting. As explained in the previous report, the 2003 executive has agreed to stay on for 2004 and were acclimated with the only changes being that Ernie McFarlane is added a assistant Tech Director, and the Web Master will change (to be announced shortly). The following is a summary of how the Regional Championship, regional classes and the rule book will be affected.
1. The Regional Championship race format has gone back to the 2003 format with 3 races at CARTBC, Quesnel, and Youbou for all regional classes. The dates have been added on our schedule page.
2. The Leopard Class is reinstated.
3. The TAG class added at the November meeting was removed and then replaced by a 125 Water Cooled Spec Class, that will be virtually the same and will include the Vortex ROK and other comparable engines, handicapped by weight as per TAG USA 2003 rules.
4. The Junior 3 class was removed and replaced by 3 separate classes, being Rotax Junior, Leopard Junior, and Vortex ROK Junior, for C+ licensed drivers. These 3 classes along with JICA will be run together and scored separately at regional events, numbers permitting.
5. The World Formula Class was added.
6. The Vortex ROK is added to the existing Junior 2 class with restrictors to be announced.
7. An average of 5 entries minimum will be required for all classes to qualify for Regional Championship Awards. The Regional Championship Awards will now be presented at the final race in Youbou, for 2004.
8. Individual Regional Race trophies will be limited for low class entry numbers. For 1 to 3 entries, 1st place trophy only. For 4 to 5 entries, 1st and 2nd place only. And for 6 or more entries, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded.
9. Restarts will be permitted in ICA.
10. The ICC style silencer will not be required in Formula 80, but new silencers are being tested and announcements will be forthcoming.
11. The muffler for the Yamaha Junior engines is being changed to the new RLV Superbox type with silencer. This is said to add power and significantly reduce the noise level.
12. The Comer 80 cc will change to 10 cc cylinder head volume and 0.035" minimum squish height. This is said to be accomplished with an additional or thicker head gasket. The motion proposed by WKA proposes that for 2005 the head volume be 11 cc and the engine be phased out by 2006.
An "Engine and Class Introduction and Elimination Committee" was formed to develop and document a system to manage the BCKCA Class structure. They will report to BCKCA by May 1, 2004. The committee consists of John Gregg and Ernie McFarlane. Written submissions to the committee are welcome.
The magazine subscription program for Inside Karting
with your drivers license application has been dropped. Racers are encouraged
to look after their own subscriptions henceforth.
Unofficial 2004 BCKCA Rules Meeting Report. November 18, 2003
The fall rules meeting was held in Abbotsford on November 15th and 16th. The election of the 2004 executive will take place at the AGM, January 24th and 25th in Duncan. Russ Walsh has volunteered as the Election Officer. Nominations are to be submitted to Russ before the AGM. The current executive has agreed to stand for 2004.
The 2004 Canadian Nationals will be held at CART BC from August 20th to 22nd, with practice on August 18th and 19th. The current executive has begun planning for the event, and for this reason is willing to carry on for next year. The Rhombus in Chilliwack will be the host hotel. Sponsorship is yet to be secured. A title sponsor as well as trophy sponsors for each class is needed. Any help in this regard is welcomed. Deb Hillier-Buel has volunteered to be the Volunteer Coordinating Chair.
The rules proposals were discussed at length and voted on. Following are the highlights only (not all items of business are reported).
1. The 2004 Regional Championship will have the
classes split into 2 groups and a single 3-day event held for each group.
The race event will consist of qualifying, pre-final and two finals on
both Saturday and Sunday. Championships will be awarded at the conclusion
of the event based on total points from the 4 final heats. Group A will
race at CART BC (data to be announced) while Group B will race at Cariboo
Raceway Park in Quesnel, July 30 to August 1. The final class list and
group alignments will be set at the AGM in January, but are expected to
be close to:
a. All Junior 2 cycle except
Junior 3, TAG, TAG Heavy, ICA & ICC.
b. All Junior 4 cycle, Junior
3, All Senior 4 cycle, FR125 & F80.
2. It was agree that a 4-cycle tech person will
be added. This job is currently open.
3. Formula 80 will now require a B+ license,
so is no longer an entry-level class.
4. The Formula Leopard class is replaced by a
Senior TAG (Touch And Go) class, using TAG Racing USA engine and weight
rules, ASN Canada chassis rules, and BCKCA tire rules. This allows multiple
engines such as Parilla Leopard, Rotax Max FR125 and Vortex Rok to be run
together handicapped by weight.
5. A Senior TAG Heavy class is added as per the
above rules plus 30 pounds.
6. The issue of fairness in the Junior 3 class
and the possibility of replacing it with a Junior TAG class to TAG Racing
USA rules was discussed and tabled to the January AGM meeting with no resolution.
Although TAG Racing USA has indicated intent to have a Junior TAG class
specification, at this time no details have been published. It is expected
that there will be delayed release of the Junior TAG rules due to the recent
sudden death of Tom Argy Jr., their president.
7. A Rotax Max Heavy class is added at 403 pounds.
8. The front brake issue was discussed and all
motions for changes were defeated. Front brake rules will be the same as
last year (any class can use front brakes except FR125, and 125 shifters
must have them).
9. The fuel rules are unchanged from last year.
It remains that, with the exception of Rotax, the 2 cycle classes have
an open fuel rule.
10. The motion to allow restarting of stalled
karts in ICA was defeated.
11. The motion to allow warming (scrubbing) of
tires in ICA and ICC was defeated.
12. Rookies will not be permitted to enter regional
races.
13. Full width bumpers will be required in Junior
1,2 & 3 classes.
14. Maximum overall width for World Formula is
increased to 55”.
15. The request to allow any ASN approved chassis
in World Formula was denied. ASN rules for WF will prevail.
16. All 100cc and all TAG engines must have an
additional silencer connected whether the 82dba limit is met without it
or not.
17. ICC style silencers are required on all Formula
80 shifter engines.
The additional classes that were added (TAG Heavy & Rotax Heavy) were in light of the two group Regional format. If it is decided to go back to a single group for 2005 and there are too many classes, then these may be dropped. This is just speculation. I also speculate that a World Formula class may be proposed at the January meeting.
The BCKCA format, as democratic as it is, still
presents difficulties in settling matters and making the best decisions.
Each item of business is discussed and argued by the club representatives.
In many cases, even if convincing arguments are made, the reps are still
obligated to vote on the matter as directed by their club. There are the
unresolved issues (class group alignments and Junior 3), and perhaps some
contentious issues that may want to be re-visited at the January 24th meeting.
Hopefully the outcome of this meeting will promote open discussion of the
issues at the clubs and on the forum. This will help the clubs and the
reps understand the issues better and may help with the outcome of the
next BCKCA meeting.

2004 SIKA Classes announced.October
7, 2003
At our September 23rd meeting,
the class list for next year was decided on.
The reason for doing so now, was to give the members as much advance notice
as possible to help them decide on any potential equipment changes being
contemplated for next year. We have reduced the class offerings to seven
core classes and one open class, intended to allow any engines not covered
in the core group to run. As we are still a realatively small club, the
intent is to get numbers and competition levels up in the core classes
and eliminate classes that have shown very low participation levels. It
is the clubs hope that those members whose classes were cut, will consider
changing to one of the core classes. In establishing our core classs we
are recognizing, in most cases, the popular classes at SIKA and in our
region. Provisions are made for any engine to run at our events by creating
the "Open" class, and allowing Junior 2-2cycle to run with Canada Junior.
Notice: Karting not sanctioned
by SIKA or BCKCA. October 7, 2003
It is a concern of SIKA that
karts may be run at non approved venues and events, such as practicing
at rental tracks and speedways, and entering karts in organized autocross
events. Insurance coverage, track safety provisions, and emergency medical
facilities may not be at the same standards as adopted by SIKA, BCKCA,
and ASN for karting. Therefore, we warn anyone participating in non sanctioned
activities, that they do so entirely at their own risk, and not with the
approval or recommendation of SIKA. Attached
is a letter from BCKCA addressing this issue. Having said this, SIKA
does support the goals of other motorsport clubs like Pro West who run
organized events aimed at getting racing off city streets and into an organized
environment. We also support the exchange of volunteers to support each
others events.

Final race weekend for 2003
a success. Sept. 22, 2003
Our final race weekend for
the season resulted in great weather, some great racing, great pot luck
dinner, and an improved turn out of racers. Ten members of the Pro West
Motorsport Club were very good about volunteering to help officiate the
event on Saturday and Sunday and donate prizes for the winners. Good on
ya'. Bulldog Motorsports also donated prizes for the Junior Classes. We
had a total of 29 entries, which is up from 18 the previous weekend. Dan
Hildebrandt and David Savoia gave us a lift by starting the tire moving
Friday night, which really helped put us on schedule for Saturday. The
pot luck dinner was well attended and featured more than enough good eatin'.
The racing featured good battles taking place in most of the classes. Full
results will be posted in the next few days.
Pro West Motorsports is hosting
an Autocross double header weekend Oct. 11-12 and needs volunteers to help
with the event. We would like to have SIKA members return the favor by
coming out for this event. Please contact Dan Hildebrandt (542-5204) to
volunteer and get the schedule.
Our next meeting, Sept. 23rd
is still at Alexander's Pub, as stated below. This is our rules proposal
meeting. Be there or be square.
New venue for next meting,
Sept. 23rd. Sept. 18, 2003
The next meeting will be held
at the meting room at Alexander's Pub On The Beach at 12408 Kalamalka Lake
Road in Coldstream (Vernon). Note that this is a licensed facility and
thus is restricted to 19 years and over. Apparently we have lost the Alpine
Center location as a meeting place, so are looking for a suitable alternative
for our Vernon area meetings. We, of course, would like a venue without
any age restriction, so if one can be found quickly there may be a change
for the Sept. 23rd meeting. Check here for details before the meeting.
New forum partition created
for SIKA Karters. Aug 23, 2003
The BC Karting Forum has added
a section
for issues relating to our club. It is open to anybody, and is just
a means of grouping related posts. All are invited to use this space to
openly discuss issues relating to our club.
